Plastic surgery is a medical specialty focused on repairing and restoring the body due to injuries, disfigurements, or congenital defects. It also includes cosmetic surgery aimed at improving the appearance of facial and body features that patients are dissatisfied with.
To become a certified plastic surgeon in Malaysia, a physician must complete 5-7 years of postgraduate training, including general surgery and at least 2-3 years at an approved plastic surgery training centre, followed by passing a rigorous exam administered by the Malaysia Board of Plastic Surgery or its Canadian equivalents.
While plastic surgery can significantly improve the appearance of scars using techniques like Z or W-plasty, the outcome of scar treatment can vary based on factors such as the scar’s orientation, the patient's age, skin type and color, and individual healing capabilities.
